problem & challenge
Standalone systems create duplicate work and increase asset management risk in old system
While OnePM was excellent at building maintenance strategies, it largely operated as a standalone system. Asset strategy was often disconnected, as users made unauthorized changes that exposed the organization to significant risk and unplanned downtime.
outcome & impact
Software applied across public utilities, global oil & gas production, coal terminals, and natural gas sectors
5 - 10X more efficient in building maintenance strategies
$135MM saved over the next decade for LNG Producer
700,000+ asset tactics developed in 14 weeks for water utility
leadership
A new challenge for me
Design responsive UI components
As the design lead with 2 designers, I as the main bridge person worked with PMs to prioritize and backlog features, restructure the information architecture, and redesign workflows to scope down to a minimum viable product for the upcoming release.
While designing, I oversaw the team's work to ensure we delivered on time and avoided reinventing the wheel while other product lines developed in parallel on other teams.
The design system only had fundamental components back then. It couldn't handle complex scenarios most of the time. To deliver on time, I worked closely with developers to build reusable components and patterns for our design team and contribute to our design system.
early research
Part of workflows in old system still rely on external platform
Old OnePM system
I partnered with the PM and SME to decide which workflows to keep or completely redesign in the old system. In particular, we found that users rely on external spreadsheets for comprehensive asset information, such as Excel files, or get approval for parameter changes over the phone.
Key feature 1
Needs & Painpoints
Users manage assets and handle troubleshooting daily. They are required to adjust the asset parameters for the strategy when needed. In previous experience with the old system, they relied on users digging deeply into the complex hierarchy to access it, which led to inefficiency and failures caused by human error.
Solution: Build an intuitive strategy framework for detailing information
My design goals were to minimize clicks and reduce cognitive load through a categorized Strategy Tree, helping users navigate and manage each task more easily.
Key feature 2
Needs & Painpoints
Research revealed that the strategies created by Reliability Engineers and Maintenance Engineers are often similar but structured differently. Sometimes, when users build and maintain a strategy plan for the same asset, their approach depends on their experience, background, or even personal preference. This becomes a real problem within a single asset or even across an entire organization, as issues can significantly impact productivity.
Solution: Workflow conflicts between engineers
To ensure that high-quality strategy plans are stable, consistent, and non-redundant across assets within the organization. When a user adds a new task, there will be a rule-based strategy review process for users to get approval from the owner, and key data will be prevented from being modified.

Key feature 3
Business cost much more.
During testing, we found a blind spot: too many strategies were being deployed, and users lacked an overview of the cost of all the strategies they created.
Which strategy has the best performance?
To help users quickly identify the winning strategy and save on costs. I worked with an SME to visualize the data by ranking the top 10 most expensive strategies in real time, so users could compare and manage strategies efficiently instead of waiting for a monthly or quarterly report with static numbers and avoiding unnecessary costs for business.
Product value
Excellence in execution
We achieved beyond-expectation results in digital maintenance strategy optimization and rapid strategy deployment. Our clients achieve a 1-6% increase in asset availability and a 5-30% reduction in operational costs. Helping a global oil & gas producer reduce maintenance strategy development time for 152,000 assets by 60%, and enabling a public utility company to cut reactive maintenance by approximately 20% through the scale-out deployment of over 500 equipment templates.
